Mohawk College today launched a new logo during the 2010 Mohawk President's Breakfast. With Mohawk's largest campus renewal project in full swing, the time was right to also renew the College's logo with a modern look that incorporates Mohawk's traditional colours of red and black.
Clothing with the new logo is available from the Mohawk College Bookstore, with a percentage from each sale being invested in a student scholarship fund.
Downloadable logos and styleguide are available here.
Is the old stuff being discounted?

Is the new merchandise available in the "newly painted" bookstore that is painted in the colours the college was supposed to use then abandoned?

Linda:
Based on suggestions from students and staff, Mohawk's senior management team made some final tweeks to the logo this summer. These enhancements included a colour change that incorporates our college's traditional school colours of red and black -- colours that are a big part of student athletics, convocation and the Mohawk Student's Association. So while a coat of paint had gone up on the walls in the bookstore, we listened to what students and staff were telling us and went with a logo that builds on our history, looks to the future and will stand the test of time.
Cheers,
Jay Robb

This is brutal. Pay attention to the design world around you.

Wow! I love the new stuff. I am very happy with this final choice. I picked up a copy of the Turtle Island News an saw three great ads for Mohawk College in the new style. I think its bold, powerful and slick.
Way to go design team. I am excited to see this look on clothes and bill boards.
I have to admit though, I am not a big fan of the way the new website looks.

Block out the word "College". What does the logo represent now? A Bank, a software company, perhaps a database vendor? The identity is so generic it could represent almost any technologically advanced company.
I can almost see the brief now, "Mohawk College is a future forward educational institution...", then brainstorming..."Hmm, future forward, future forward. Ok, futuristic font!"
Giving "College" the same weight and treatment as "Mohawk" would make the logo at least appear less generic on a quick glance. As of now, the logo has no reference to education, the school, or the 44 years of history Mohawk has.
It's not a bad logo, but it doesn't say Mohawk College to me, it doesn't really say anything to me except "FUUUUUTURE!". Based on it, I'd guess you were looking to break from any existing looks, in that case, you've succeeded. If you were trying to convey any other aspects of what the school is, then I'd call this logo a failure.
