Don McNally, President of Hamilton-based Net Access Systems, and Joyce Filice, an Employment Consultant with Mohawk's Community Employment Services, attended the Employment Services open house held at the STARRT Campus in Stoney Creek today.
The event was held to welcome the community and celebrate the successes of the campus' Employment Services centre, which began serving the community late last year.
Don says that Community Employment Services has helped his business grow and succeed in Hamilton. One of his newest employees, Marco Tofano, is a Mohawk grad and Second Career student who used the centre's services to retrain for a new career after leaving the struggling manufacturing sector.
Marco said Community Employment Services became a "great reset for my life".
Also on hand for the celebrations were Mohawk President Rob MacIsaac, Ted McMeekin, MPP for Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale and Paul Miller, MPP for Hamilton East - Stoney Creek.
Funded by Employment Ontario, Community Employment Services offers free and comprehensive employment services to job seekers, including:
- One-on-one employment consultation, job search support and group workshops
- Access to a resource centre and computer lab
- Access to Ontario government programs, including Second Career
Community Employment Services also serves employers by posting job opportunities, hosting job fairs, pre-screening job applicants and, in some cases, offering subsidies to offset initial training costs.
