Today's Hamilton Spectator has this story about politician turned writer Vince Agro and his book titled, The Good Doctor. The article mentions the former municipal politician and prominent local businessman's praise for Mohawk College instructors Rachael Preston and Jeff Griffiths, who teach the Writing for Publication program offered through Continuing Education at the College. The Good Doctor is a fictional account of the real-life experiences of Vince and his uncle, Dr. Vincenzo Agro. The book is set in Hamilton during the Second World War.

NewsClip TV has this video from the recent Government of Canada funding announcement at Mohawk College. Mohawk received $2.2 million through the College and Community Innovation Program. The funding will support an applied research project aimed at solving the challenge of safely connecting renewable energy with the existing power grid.

Mohawk College officially opened its new centre on Hamilton Mountain to serve and connect job seekers and employers. About 100 people attended the official official opening held at the Fennell Campus last night.
The Community Welcome Centre offers a complete range of free employment services delivered in partnership with Employment Ontario, including an employment resource centre, career planning, employment workshops, apprenticeship information, Summer Job Services and referrals to other services and resources in the community. The Community Welcome Centre also offers recruitment and hiring services for employers.
Mohawk has delivered employment services for more than 30 years and is one of seven Employment Ontario service providers in Greater Hamilton. The College also offers free employment services at its skilled- trades campus (STARRT) in East Hamilton. Along with employment services, the new centre is also home to Mohawk’s free academic upgrading, Continuing Education and language skills development programs.
The Community Welcome Centre at the Fennell Campus is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. For more information, call 905.575.2177.

Apple Canada and Mohawk College are hosting a sold-out leadership roundtable for eHealth innovators at the Fennell Campus tomorrow. The roundtable will feature 12 presenters who are leading advances in eHealth teaching, research and clinical practice. The roundtable aims to connect innovators and their ideas with Ontario's healthcare community.

Mohawk College officially opens a new centre this afternoon on Hamilton Mountain to serve and connect job seekers and employers.
Mohawk officially opens the new Community Welcome Centre with college partners on Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in room J137 at the Fennell Campus.
The Community Welcome Centre offers a complete range of free employment services delivered in partnership with Employment Ontario, including an employment resource centre, career planning, employment workshops, apprenticeship information, Summer Job Services and referrals to other services and resources in the community. The Community Welcome Centre also offers recruitment and hiring services for employers.
“As a learning and employment hub, Mohawk’s Community Welcome Centre builds on a long-standing partnership between our college and the Ontario government in helping people in our community fulfill their potential,” says Jim Vanderveken, Dean of Mohawk’s Faculty of Interdisciplinary Studies.

Major renovations, supported with funding from Employment Ontario, converted former classrooms and offices at the Fennell Campus into the new one-stop Community Welcome Centre. Along with employment services, the new centre is also home to Mohawk’s free academic upgrading, Continuing Education and language skills development programs. The renovations are part of the largest campus renewal project in Mohawk’s history.

Students in Mohawk College's advertising agency are looking for toy donations for the agency's annual toy drive benefiting Hamilton Mountain Kidz Klub (MKK). The local charity benefits underprivileged youth in the community, offering after school programs, holiday events and providing meals for children and their families. This year, the students' goal is to collect 150 toys for MKK. The toys will be delivered on Thursday, Dec. 15.
If you are able to make a donation a drop box has been set up in the main lobby of M Wing, which is located along Governor's Blvd just west of F Wing.

All full-time day students are invited to take part in Mohawk's Fall 2011 Student Feedback on Teaching Survey. The survey runs to Friday, Dec. 9. Students will have received an email with a link to their customized and confidential survey. The survey can be completed on smartphones, tablets, laptops and computers. Students will be asked to identify where their professors excel in the classroom and how faculty could do an even better job of delivering a quality education. Survey results will be shared with professors, their associate deans and deans early in 2012 after final marks have been submitted for the Fall term.
